“Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Take me heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above”
I’m not only prone to wander as a child of the most High…
I’m also prone to disbelief.
I’m prone to complacency.
I’m prone to temptation.
I’m prone to discouragement.
I’m prone to loneliness.
I’m prone to idolatry.
I’m prone to silence.
We learned a lot on Sunday about how even Paul, one of the greatest apostles of all time, was prone to be silent.
In the book of Acts, chapter 18, Paul leaves Athens where only some believed, and then heads to Corinth, the capital of sex and drugs, yet many believed and many were baptized after hearing the word. Yet we can gather from the text, he struggled at least internally- God spoke to Him in Acts 18:9-10 “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.”
I obviously can’t relate to Paul exactly… but, I can relate to being prone to silence.
“I care about what people will think”
“I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings”
“I would rather people not think I passing accusation on them”
“I know He elects people and calls them to Himself, I don’t have to convince…”
The list goes on and on.
It seems that there is a huge focus worldwide for even self proclaiming “followers of God” to just follow the belief that God is “love”. Yes, God is love. He is also judge. He is a trillion other things as well. Why just focus on the one that makes people think they are “okay”. Humanity is not okay without His saving grace. His saving grace is and was accomplished through His son.
Oh that we wouldn’t be swayed or tossed to and fro about what makes human sense. I recently read an article about how we should all love and respect each other and that all ways lead to “God”. That just isn’t true, not with my God, Yahuah- the “God” of the scriptures; He gave one way – His son.
John 14:6- Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I don’t want people to blaspheme it and spit heresy about Him. If we’re Christians we have a responsibility to defend Him. Even if it means prosecution, even if it means people think we are spiritual nuts, even if it means no one likes us. Yes by all means, love others, love them as well as you possibly can, but speak truth into their hearts and minds. Fortunately, He doesn’t NEED us to defend Him. He will reveal His glory in due time. If you love Him though, tell the world about Him, give Him the recognition He deserves in everything you do, say, and think. Do not hate, belittle, etc people with different beliefs or think you are better. Where did you get your faith? Where did you receive your grace? Can you boast in something that is not your own?
Ephesians 2:8-9- “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Be humble. I do not know everything by any means, but the truth I know I will try and tell.
However, I am chicken and silent sometimes, and I am prone to wonder why God is silent right now… I know He isn’t really, I know that His timing is perfect; I know He is working in many lives and places. I can’t help to long for Him to defend His name, show the world who He really is! He will though… While I’m waiting on that, there are so many loved ones I want to see come to Him and people that I don’t even know yet.
Titus 2:13- “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ”
Surely, our God is love. He is also judge. Let us desire to learn His laws of faith and obedience, today. We don’t know the day or hour, but we will all give an account.
I am so thankful for a High Priest, for whom when I am prone to disbelief, worry, idolatry, complacency, loneliness, discouragement, faithlessness, doubt and silence steps in for me.
2 Timothy 4:2 – preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
What are you prone to?
